It is not supposed to be
Like this, all this time later,
A flash back,
And LSD drip
Without the benefit
Of LSD,
A man can’t revisit
This without
Feeling again
What he felt before,
The same intensity,
The heat that scalds
Down deep into the bones,
Even at a distance,
Even when he resists
The throb of it,
A steady unrelenting
Drum beat,
Pounding up from
His soul,
As if no time has passed
And we sit still
In the deep dark,
Speaking without words,
Hearing the hum
Of something I only
Thought I imagined
Back then.
A man cannot go back
In time and expect
To remain unaffected,
Unchanged,
Or perhaps worse,
More of the same,
Feeling the beat of it
Pounding on his insides
Like something
Aching to get out.
