She says it is everywhere
Unaffected by petty forces
Like gravity,
The invisible thing
Nuns told us we have
Yet search as I might
I cannot find it,
This mysterious invisible
Thing god gave us,
So we might be
Like him,
Stained by sinful people
Like myself, the way
Cigarettes smoked
In the school yard
Stained my teeth
Nobody knows
What it looks like
When its pure,
Spelt different
From the ones I have
On the bottom
Of my shoes,
Stuck with wads
Of gum as I age,
Her soul clearly
Different from mine
That it can resist
Cosmic forces,
When all mine does
Is doom me
To eternal damnation,
Or so the nuns said
When they cleanse it
With their ruler.
