true love lasts even when we don't
growing tender, brighter
like the slanted rays of sunset on the sea
a sun we know must soon sink
yet does not fade
it lingers on the edge of the world
while we in the deepening shadows
cling to each beam as if a lifeline
we cling to love the same way
begging God or faith or Fortune
to let it last for at least
one more brief moment
one more breath
we enthralled as we were
from the start
bathing in its blood color
letting it seep into
us
as we cling to each other
precious, tender
mercies
we can't live without
