Won’t get fooled again February 14, 2014

There are a lot of tales about how and why our poet got hired on in the Virgin Mayor’s office, but all of them seem to fall short of what I suspect really happened.

I completely reject the concept that she was a pity hire. I also do not believe she was a spy for the Virgin Mayor when she sought out employment in the campaign of his opposition.

The Virgin Mayor’s people likely panicked, and urged the mayor to hire her because she was just too dangerous to have her working for the other side.

I’ve also do not believe these same people used her as a mole inside our publication when she was still employed with us, although I am convinced RR used her that way.

No doubt she talked a good game with the Virgin Mayor’s people (just the way she did with our office gossips) making them believe she could influence us on behalf of the mayor.

This, of course, meant that she had to somehow prove herself and that she could become a valuable asset, especially if she was as close to our publisher as we all believe.

Despite her best efforts, she ultimately failed to prove her worth to them and she became relegated to non-essential jobs. She did try. She made phone calls, trying to bolster support for the mayor and to find dirt on his opposition. But some of this backfired, especially when it came to the Small Man, who already distrusted her and is likely the one to force her to resign from our office. This was made worse by her attempt to use the son of a key player for the Small Man, and he apparently used his influence to isolate her even more.

It is hard to determine if she came to believe her own bullshit or not. But it is clear other people close to the mayor ceased to take her seriously as a power player.

What other roles she might have played, what trickling up she conducted, so not figure greatly in her status, and perhaps the story about her seeing someone else get a raise figured into her final days, a blow to her ego when she came to realize nobody really considered her essential.

In this scenario, she seemed to believe she deserved as much of a raise as one of the critical players. But it also indicated her continued need for cash – despite a $20,000 annual raise in May 2013.

At one point, I thought she might be addicted to cocaine, but I have no proof of that nor has anyone else suggested it,

At our office, she was legitimately strapped for cash as our former temporary boss claimed, although it is unclear if she had to do any special favors for the publisher for him to toss her extra work for extra money.

But it is clear, the waning days at our office became increasingly uncomfortable – especially if she had intended to keep her relationships with the various players secret from other players, something I was partly responsible for since I had raised my suspicions to our former temporary boss during our meetings in the park and later laid out the whole thing before our two publishers when I informed them that she had accused me of stalking.

Even if the small man had not force her out, she could not have kept up that routine when knowing everybody knew what she was up to, including the office gossips.

I think she faced similar issues while employed by the virgin mayor, even though she was probably more successful in keeping secret her various relationships.

If she trickled up to people like Joey D, Silvio or Garcia, she had some clout, although only because other players saw her as the girlfriend of powerful players, not because she had any person power to wield, and most likely because a precarious balancing act.

While perception of having personal power is power, it only lasts while people believe it, and she may have miscalculated how other people perceived her

Eventually, it was going to catch up with her, which may explain why Joey D is trying his best to get her a job in Peninsula City.
