Don’t you dare do it!
Think about this or that,
past or future,
when all you have is now
in the moment, she says,
though when she scolds herself for it,
for dwelling on the past,
she gets angry because
she’s thinking of the future,
instead of living now –
perhaps a way of forgetting
what was without worry
over what might be,
only it can’t be done,
like a pengilum that sways
back and forth,
past passing through the present
on its way to what’s unpredictably ahead,
impossible to halt if at that point
where now is,
to cease moment is to cease to exist,
and yet, she tries,
looking to freeze her life
at one particular place
no – one particular frame of mind,
where she need not be concerned
about what was or what will be,
not realizing that she can’t do it,
and struggles to anyway,
halting
it all in her head.
