Sailor on an unforgiving sea Oct. 31, 2012

Calm never lasts

Another storm always beckons.

New waves to overcome,

This massive,

Uncertain and turbulent

Sea of life,

Such sailors as her

Risk all and suffer most,

Masts falling in on them

Like giant trees,

Yet also leave her exposed,

No rewards to be won,

How vulnerable

Even the powerful become,

Forced to sail on,

Bodies scarred from the turmoil,

Scared on the inside

While keeping their outer face stern,

She is a siren

Who still sings her songs

Even after her ship has sunk,

Her songs about lost love,

Ot souls consumed

By the unforgiving sea,

Still somehow,

She survives,

A potent Athena

Or Hera,

As mighty even as Zeus,

Becoming that faint

Speck on the horizon,

Lost to us

In the waves
