I gave her the book
because
she said she didn't know
how to do what
she was hired to do,
though we both knew
she knew better,
how good she was at it,
having proven herself
again and again for months
I had this book that might help her,
And gave it to her
As if I was giving her Holy Communion
Never imagining the consequences
Until last night
When she texted to tell me
How much she was
Into me
With me telling her
I am an old man
Half blind,
With an eye patch over one eye
Like a pirate
I won’t deny admiring her
the sleek figure seated
at the desk near the
window,
or across the meeting table from me,
her gaze thick with
potential
I might only guess
about,
and now I wonder
what comes next.
