I lick the drip
Of rain from your lips
And shudder
The deep chill
Of faltering winter,
Pressed against
The warmth of you.
I lick the drip
Of rain from your lips
Vibrating through me,
A shifting inside
The way the earth shakes
From the moving
Of continental plates,
An ache I can’t relieve
I lick the drip of rain
From you lips
Feeling your lips
Against my lips,
Rain dripping down
Over us, from us,
Though it is not
That wet I float in,
Not the chill of heart
I fear,
The unending winter
That sees no spring,
I lick the drip of rain
From your lips,
Filling myself up
With a memory,
Taking in deep draughts
Of breath
I have not breathed in years,
I breathe you
In and out,
Drowning in something
That is not rain
I lick your lips.
