One for the team Feb 16, 2013

A sacrifice in baseball means giving up a bat to advance a runner that is not you.

You do it for the team when most want to swing away, to be the hero, to get that key hit  --or better yet, a home run.

But do you give yourself up when the team doesn’t appreciate you?

When all you manage for yourself is to barely get buy, while the super stars with heft salaries get the glory and luxury, laying down a bunt when your team mate run the bases and maybe score.

Where is the fairness, under paid, unrecognized when you are constantly trying to get to first base, to stick in there, and maybe score later, bet a bit of the glory for a change, if not the luxury.

Why are you always asked to give one up for the team, and why is nobody patting you on the back when it is because of you, they are getting the glory?

Sometimes, it is better just to swing away, see what happens. Maybe you’ll get a hit or better a home run.
