Our former temporary boss is acting weird again, as is the owner, the way he did last summer.
I don’t know if this has anything to do with our poet’s last posting, which hints of a change of plans and a possible eking out something positive from her current negative situation.
Although I’m scared the owner might hire her back, I can’t imagine her wanting to return to this place, back to starvation wages when she’s poised to get a big raise where she currently is.
The owner is too cheap to pay her what she is worth and would need to create a new position if he did, something perhaps like an on-line content editor.
She alluded to things being bad behind the scenes, and the failure of the Virgin Mayor’s primary battle indicates as well, suggesting that he has given up trying to extend his reach beyond his town, which puts him at risk. You can’t hunker down and expect to beat the political machine if it is set against you – although with that said, the Virgin Mayor did manage to do so during his first election.
But with the legal issues he’s facing, and his questionable allies (such as The Small Man, the Congressman and the Neighboring mayor), he may not survive, if these and others decide to replace him in the next election.
This is a precarious gamble for her since – if her finance report to the state is any indication – she has put all her eggs in the Virgin Mayor’s basket, gambling he will survive, and will eventually bring her some sense of power. While she can jump ship any time she wants, she has invested a lot in her current situation.
You have to wonder if she making plans, sewing seed in some other flower pot where she can plant herself if all goes wrong where she is.
Again, my fear of her returning to this office is exaggerated, even if she still keeps hold of the owner and the former temporary boss.
The best situation for me would be for her to find some situation that has nothing to do with us, or even local and county politics, have her move on to some new profession that will pay her better and give her the kind of respect she thinks she deserves.
But I fear the Hometown election will get in the way of that as her boss – the PR guy who has taken up as R’s campaign manager – might need to make use of her talents in order to win that election.
This would not bode well for me if she did.
