On wrong side? May 3, 2013

Her accessing my website over the last few days is most likely a coincidence or perhaps a need for her to distract herself from the dilemma of her current situation.

Her most recent poem suggests that more than just a falling out of love separates her from the man she loves, but also politics.

He or she is on the wrong side of a conflict, and it may be impossible to tell which side will win.

The Virgin Mayor’s trial is looming and there is most likely a panic going in behind the scenes as people scramble to position themselves for the aftermath –whatever that may be.

She, too, is most likely weighing options, trying to figure out what to do next.

The small man described RR as her protector – but that was months ago, and RR has gone on a rampage making enemies even among the Virgin Mayor’s inner circle, and if she is still with him, she may well be on the wrong side if the Virgin Mayor prevails.

All this is purely hypothetical as to who is on what side when it is clear everybody is out for him or herself, and sides matter less than survival.

Despite the confidence the Virgin Mayor’s enemies have in regard to the case, I suspect he will survive – if not unscathed, then at least not mortally wounded – and as they say, what doesn’t kill you tends to make you stronger.

But this is an easy observation to make since I have nothing riding on it, while she and others have everything to lose if he goes down.

How her affair (and with whom) still puzzles me, although she suggested in her recent poem that politics plays a part, and that it is possible the man she was in love with is on the wrong side of the equation.

It seems she likes being a political player – only such a position comes with heavy risks.

But it is also possible that love or some other aspiration got her dragged along on a trip she did not originally intend to take, and now, she’s faced with a choice or finding an exit or braving it out when it is clear she has no real control of the ultimate outcome.

She may also feel cheated out of her piece of the action since being on the inside of such political schemes has sweet rewards.

My best guess is that she leaped off one sinking ship (with us) and onto another, and didn’t really plan it all out in advance, and must now make choices based on a general panic.

I suspect she is more of a free agent these days than a committed foot soldier (although foot soldier is a part, she plays to keep her political contacts happy).

The problem for her if she has broken with RR, and the Police Commissioner – one of her other key allies as resigned – she’ll need some other powerful figure to latch onto, and this won’t be the Virgin Mayor. Some of her Facebook posts suggests there are cracks there.

She initially sold herself as team player, calling the town (on her Twitter account) the best town in America. But I still can’t always tell what she really believes, whether she pumps herself up when first becoming a true believer, only to get disillusioned later (where does the dreaming go when it hit reality) or has she always been more Machiavellian never truly believing anything in the first place

So, what comes next? If she leaps off the ship, she’ll have to build a new life somewhere else. Frankly, I don’t think she’s yet ready for that.

Most likely, her new west friend will be Joey D -- the ultimate political survivor who actually runs the town like a puppet master.

This raises the question as to whether Joey D is the subject of all those love poems over the last few months.
