For the fourth week in a row, the owner has not been at our staff meeting, leaving his partner to oversee the meetings instead.
The only time he did show up he only appeared in the doorway, did not look around, and asked a quick question before fleeing again.
He looked nervous.
This was far different from how smug he was when running the meetings in the past, making me wonder what the hell is wrong with him.
On the other hand, she was in full form when she finally arrived at the office yesterday, stomping passed my Harry Potter alcove as if she needed me to notice her.
But from the arrogant tilt of her head, she clearly made it clear she was ignoring me.
She must have caught onto my outing the unions as source of gossip about the neighboring mayor and may vaguely be aware that the unions have been trying to use her as a weapon against him.
She also overheard my conversations with the boss about my concerns about we appearing biased, a point I also made in emails to the boss, making sure to CC her as well.
I mentioned some of my concerns at the meeting, too, alluding to some of her stories without actually saying them out loud, drawing darting stares from her across the table.
After the meeting, she arranged to meet with the boss to discuss “significant issues.”
She seems bound and determined to go after the mayor, putting her fate in her own hands if it all backfires on her. I can’t help but think she’s going to hang herself over all of this, and apparently doing so for somebody else’s agenda.
She’s stepped out of the comfort zone of the other town where the mayor, the police commissioner and others are her friends and into a town where the mayor has already said he doesn’t trust her.
She’s just too inexperienced to deal with an enemy like him.
The question is: who is she doing this for?
It may be the boss pushing her to go after the mayor, but somehow, I suspect there is someone else.
