Smorgasbord Aug. 13, 2025

It is all laid out like a buffet, an all you can eat smorgasbord, from which I only need select my favorite dishes, and yet, almost like the kind in the candy shop, I stare, stunned by what is there, feeling as unworthy as Judas must have at the last supper, finger poised, pointing to this or that, leaving smudges on the glass, when all I need to do is break through and take it, whatever dish pleases me, when all of it does, if only in different ways. I taste it without even putting it in my mouth, feel its swell, its moist embrace, taste its slightly salty flavor, a dish, a dessert, a banana split that needs me to merely add the whipped cream.

Why are we forced to choose is beyond me, life creating such dilemmas as to keep us from choosing at all, as we come to believe we might make the wrong choice and ruin it all, and yet if it is the right choice – Nirvana!
