it feels like the end of something o
only I don't know what
her clinging to some
thread
tempted by some
opportunity
yet knowing she can't hold on
at least not for long
her fingers bleeding
from gripping something
she should release
and would be better
off without
you can't let life
get in the way of common sense
when we know what we ought to do y
et can't bring ourselves to do it
a struggle over
something
we can't imagine living without
yet do not have a
firm enough grip on
to keep it anyway
tempted and yet desperate to resist
like a kid in a candy
counter with a toothache
unable to feel
whether she needs the sweets
more than she needs
relief from pain
all of it a great mystery
only she knows the
details of
not quite the end of
the world
but maybe the end of hers
the keeping
] the letting Go
the moving on
she needs most
