The last freeze the season comes on us tonight, the respite
of an early spring we hoped for, bundled up against the chill, thick layers of wool
against skin, always abrasive, a reminder of what need be to keep warm, nobody
to rub against, nor depths to plunge into, this romance vanquished by age or
necessity, the old adage of loving the one you're with, the last gasp of a
winter we thought we might be our last, any one might well be, any one of which
we need to fully embrace, with or without the one we are with, this last breeze
bringing eventual release, the relief spring always brings, if not as quickly
as we want but eventually
